Operating Mode

Levels

The course is organised in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Breakthrough / Beginner – A1.1 and A1.2: for students with no prior knowledge of Portuguese.
Waystage / Elementary – A2.1 and A2.2: for students with a basic knowledge of Portuguese.
Threshold / Intermediate – B1.1 and B1.2: for students with elementary knowledge of Portuguese enabling them to interact in limited everyday communication situations.
Vantage / Upper-Intermediate – B2.1 and B2.2: for students with sufficient knowledge of Portuguese to understand and communicate with native Portuguese speakers in more complex and varied linguistic situations.
Effective Operational Proficiency – C1.1 and C1.2: for students with a good command of Portuguese in communication and professional contexts who wish to further develop their knowledge of the language’s discourse structures.

Applicants will be assigned to classes and levels according to the level of language proficiency demonstrated in the placement test and interview. Students with no prior knowledge of Portuguese will be placed at A1.1.
